The Pressure Ulcer Problem

There are two main reasons for the development of pressure ulcers.

Firstly external pressure that squashes blood vessels. Pressure on the bony prominences of the body in particular can result in obstruction of the blood vessels, which deprives tissues of oxygen and nutrients, causing ischemia, hypoxia (not enough oxygen for the cells), edema, inflammation, and ultimately necrosis and ulcer formation. The usual places for pressure ulcers to occur are the coccyx, trochanter and the heel.

The second main reason is friction and shear forces which injure or tear the blood vessels just under the skin. Friction usually occurs when two surfaces rub together for example the elbow and a bed sheet or wheelchair arm rest.

The solution: DermaSavers amazing micro filament technology absorbs the shear forces before any damage can be done.
